KUCHING: Construction works on Kampung Bunga Rampai housing project in Bau is progressing smoothly with 25 per cent of works completed.

Sarawak Housing Development Corporation (HDC) chief executive officer Mohamad Asman Ahmad said the construction work is in fact ahead of schedule.

“It is important for any project of such scale to have a smooth beginning so that the developer can prepare for any unexpected challenges throughout the construction period,” he said in a statement yesterday.

A total of 122 single-storey terrace houses will be constructed at Kampung Bunga Rampai to provide housing for villagers there.

The affordable housing project (RMM), which costs an estimated RM23 million, is expected to take around 21 months to complete.

Though the project is ahead of schedule, Asman gave his assurance that HDC will constantly monitor the status of the project to ensure that it is completed on schedule.

Meanwhile, Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang said the implementation of Kampung Bunga Rampai housing project is crucial as it not only provides housing facilities for villagers but at the same time can address flood and landslide issues in the area.

“This project, which was initiated by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, is the first of its kind for Kampung Bunga Rampai area and therefore, the development will also help to create positive spin-off effects,” he remarked.

The project has no doubt brought good news to Kampung Bunga Rampai villagers who have been waiting for a housing project to be implemented in the area for more than three decades.

Village chief Rafaee Bujang said after 35 years, the villagers’ wish has finally come into fruition and they will soon be able to stay in a comfortable house that is situated in a safe area.

“This development will contribute towards achieving the government’s aspiration of providing affordable housing for people living in Kampung Bunga Rampai and its adjacent areas.

“The project will also come with better social amenities and public facilities,” he added.
